Where discharge from bilge tanks is permitted it is a requirement that oil filtering equipment be fitted so as to ensure that the oil content of any discharge does not exceed the maximum permitted under MARPOL (15ppm).
BilgeClear bilge water filters remove approx. 99% of oils and hydrocarbons from bilge water ensuring discharge levels are below MARPOL regulations. Bilge water containing high concentrations of oils (250ppm) is generally reduced to below 3ppm,

Large oil spillages should first be dealt with using absorbents before pumping throgh the bilge filter.
